n April 8, 2024, the Perot Museum of Nature
and Science partnered with Carnegie Science to
deliver an extraordinary astronomical experience
during the Great North American Eclipse. This strategic
alliance brought the community together through
a series of innovative eclipse-related educational
experiences and presentations, showcasing the
wonders of nature and the cosmos. The joint effort
exempli昀椀ed both institutions’ dedication to making
science accessible and inspiring to the public. With
Dallas positioned directly in the path of totality, the
Perot Museum became the epicenter for eclipse
observation, hosting a landmark gathering that
attracted thousands of visitors and captured signi昀椀cant
national media coverage.
The Perot Museum also spearheaded a campaign to
ensure that all North Texas stargazers could view the
eclipse safely by purchasing and distributing 1 million
pairs of eclipse-viewing glasses across North Texas. This
effort encouraged widespread participation, enabling
schools to incorporate the eclipse into their curriculums
and extending access to diverse community members,
including retirement facilities, community centers,
emergency services personnel, and city employees — in
addition to our on-site visitors. In a forward-looking
sustainability effort, the Museum collaborated with
regional partners to repurpose extra viewing glasses,
directing them to communities across South America in
preparation for the annular solar eclipse that will cross
Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil in February 2027.
