At the Perot Museum, the grant supports Dr. Contreras’s
time managing the project, a full-time paleobiology
research associate position filled by Julian Moore
(a recent graduate of the University of North Texas),
and travel for community-building events with researchers
and educators. The team’s responsibilities include
guiding the design of new features, entering critical
fossil plant data into the upgraded system, and leading
outreach to grow the database’s contributor community.
When complete, PBDB 2.0 will serve tens of thousands
of users per month — from university researchers
studying mass extinctions to K-12 students exploring
local fossils — and power popular educational apps
used on every continent. The project places the Perot
Museum at the center of a national effort to make
the deep history of life more accessible, more accurate,
and more useful for science and education alike.
